Has the novelty of being mayor of Halifax worn off for Mike Savage? It certainly appears that way after examining some relatively insignificant, but very telling statistics detailing the mayor’s somewhat mundane activities.
Official Blog
Let’s take a closer look at Mayor Savage’s official blog activity: “Thinking out loud about the issues and ideas that shape our city”
During 2013, Mayor Savage recorded a total of 9 blog posts. Not incredible by any stretch, but perfectly acceptable. By the end of 2014, the mayor chalked up a total of 14 posts for the year. The mayor was averaging close to one blog post per-month. That’s a respectable showing.
Five months into 2015 and Mayor Savage appears to have abandoned ship - with just one blog post recorded so far this year. What’s particularly stunning about the lack of communication on his part is that mayor’s failure to address the snow clearing challenges the city faced this winter. Mayor Savage was AWOL on his blog and in the public eye.
Accountability
On the accountability front, the mayor appears to be lagging on his “Local Travel” and “Other Miscellaneous Expenses” reports. To be fair, this could simply be an administrative issue. If so, the lack of action taken on this file also raises questions.
The records below show Mayor Savage reported Local Travel and Other Miscellaneous Expenses consistently up until the end of January 2015. Expense records for February, March and April have yet to be posted. This appears inconsistent with past practice.
